Hello there! Welcome to my first newsletter. Thanks for subscribing. In each post I'm going to pick a theme and talk about my practice. I'll also share some things I’ve enjoyed.
It was delightful to read this. I'm also a design enthusiast, particularly fond of Japanese design. In one of my newsletters, I delved into how Japanese packaging differs from European styles. Hope you enjoy it too: https://beecurios.substack.com/p/package-design-in-japan
Although I'm not an artist/illustrator, I do like collecting color palette ideas for my film projects. I usually collect those in Pinterest Boards, organized by theme. I've also used the Adobe Color app to create my own.
Such a great first post! Color is so wonderful to play with, I love that tip on slow loading Google photo images too. Do you ever find that you can bring too many materials when going out sketching and get overwhelmed?
Thanks so much! Yes it happened a lot until I began to plan palettes before I went out. Now I only have a few materials in my hand for each sketch which is so much easier.
Hi Charlotte! Thanks for your Newsletter. Love it!
Did you know that there is a Vol.2 of the dictionary of colour combinations? (Colour combos for each month and others, incl. English preface😉). Looking forward to your next post.
I love seeing your color palettes on Instagram and so it’s inspiring to see where you get them. I’m going to start a color folder on my phone! Thank you for sharing your preparation process for outdoor sketching. I, too, am jealous of the MA. I look forward to walk ting the journey with you!
Thanks so much Patti. I’m so glad there were some useful things. I’d love to see what you put in your colour folder! I’ve wanted to do the MA for so long I can’t believe it’s finally here!
Perfect subject for the first Newsletter :) love colours so much! I always choose colours based on my mood and gut, tend more too blues tho..but when looking for palettes my main inspiration comes from my surroundings and the pictures I take, there are so many wonderful colours around us even if we stay home, we just to need to open our eyes and maybe our mind too! Lately I am trying to use more limited palettes, still hard for me. The google search tip that’s a clever one ;) good luck for the MA Charlotte!
Hurray! Lovely first newsletter, and jam packed full of inspiring info. I’m definitely going to be focusing on tone now with my limited palettes, and duh…of course taking a few limited palettes to choose from so you’re not stuck with the wrong vibe when you find what you want to draw!
I’m also really jealous that you’re doing the MA, can’t really swing moving the entire family all the way down the country for it sadly. X
Ah thanks so much Cat. So glad there was some useful info. Whenever I don’t plan my palettes for a sketching day I end up making work that doesn’t feel like my own. It will be so interesting to see how my sketching changes in the next year. Sorry to hear you’re too far away. I’d definitely recommend the summer school. It was a great week and I learned lots xx
Ahh, so lovely to read about your colour inspo! You are great at colour. And yay for starting the MA. I am jealous :)
Thanks so much Anna! That’s so kind. I’m very excited about the MA. First drawing session tomorrow!
Thanks for sharing it! I try to do the same for my color palettes! 😍
Ah brilliant to know!
