I’m so excited to join in! I’m joining with the hopes of getting back into a more structured drawing habit after I took a short break after my 100 day project. I’m definitely going to join you on trying out some of the “forgotten” materials. I also thought it would be fun to ask my partner/friends to randomly pick combinations of 3 things from my supplies for me to draw with as an added challenge 😅
I’ve done some 3 materials challenge drawing in the past after being inspired by you. I found it very energizing and made some really fun drawings. I love the idea of being inspired by books and also using old materials. I have a lot of both. Thank you for creating this space😄❤️
OMG someone please remind my ADHD arse about the live on Sunday hahaha. Or upload it too! I'd love to join in. I need a bit of oomph to get things flowing again. xx
I enjoyed following this challenge last year! I was inspired to do some 3 material sketching in the holiday season and really cherished how some turned out. The 3 item limit can be a real brain teaser. July I am still working on index card a day (ICAD) but maybe can try some 3 material work there as well. It’s fun but the index cards are so tiny.
Excited for this amazing challenge again! Will join a few days :) is also a great opportunity to meet new artists works! "See you" in the live chat tomorrow Charlotte 👋🙂
How exciting! I’ve always seen the 3 materials challenge on insta but felt underprepared/missed the start so this year I think I might give it a go as I’m feeling pretty blocked in my personal creative process 🙈
I am looking forward to pushing myself to draw from life everyday! Also the drawing of the swimmer on a paint card is so lovely, what a brilliant idea!
Charlotte, this sounds like a fun challenge. It’s the busiest time of year for me however it would be a lovely goal to commit to. Even if only for a portion of it.
I recently deleted all but a few of the many years of my most recent illustration works posted to Instagram, due to meta’s unscrupulous plans to image scrape artists works for AI training.
To that end, if I’m able to participate in this challenge, I will post it to my notes here on my Substack account and not to Instagram.
I’m slowly starting to get my sketchbook practice off the ground and this sounds like a lovely way to keep it interesting. I do need to draw from life more too. So it’s a win win!
I will try to join again. I did it last year and it was really fun and challenging! Mostly, after a while, finding new subject matter and for me using just three materials. I like the idea of drawing inspiration from books though and also the color theory part of it. I loved the sequence of swimmers that you did. That was great and I think you should do a series of those.
Thanks so much Caren. Great that you'll try to join. I'd had that colour card on my desk for ages but found it again in a tidy up which inspired the picture. I'm hoping the challenge encourages me to keep learning with each sketch.
I think every time we draw something we learn from it. Plus seeing other’s work provides inspiration. Then when you look back on them all as a whole you can see where things went well and others weren’t as successful. Even if they are quick sketches!
A lot about this post resinates with me, so I will be tuning into the live Q & A Tomorrow! Thank you for sharing Charlotte, your work always inspires me :)
🩷 This is such a great idea for a challenge. I'm looking forward to pushing myself out of some boundaries and learning new things. Hope I can do 50 days 🤞🏻(I'll be happy with 20) 😂🩷🌻xxx

That sounds so fun! I think last year someone made a computer program to generate 3 materials! So glad you’re joining!
I was actually looking for this! Looking forward to trying it!
Oh hooray Adam! So glad you're going to try it!
Such a great project to keep you inspired and learning over the summer, and your plans for keeping it fresh sound great! Good luck! X
Thank you! I’m excited to try new things! x

It’s a great puzzle. That will be an extra challenge! Look forward to seeing any work you make 🙌
I've heard of this over the years, but never participated. Is there an insta page for it please? x Nell.
Hello Nell. You can see the posts on the Instagram hashtag #3materialsdrawingchallenge

Thank you! It wasn't drawn from life but it's a reminder to me that I could draw something from life and present it in a sequence.

Brilliant! Yes I find it exciting to try to use the different materials and it makes me be playful in my sketchbook. Look forward to seeing your work!
This is such a fun idea! I want to give it a go! 🎨

Absolutely! I think it’s always a win when you use a sketchbook as you capture a moment. Sometimes the quickest sketches have the most feeling.

That's so kind Sandy. Thank you! See you on the call tomorrow!

I think any amount of days is a win! Glad you're joining Sam. Just going back to a sketchbook is always brilliant.
🩷Thankyou Charlotte🙏. I woke up in the middle of the night thinking about different variations of 3 materials😂.
Wow!!! That’s preparation!
😂 Yeah - I'm a bit surprised by it actually😂🩷
