Such a lovely post! Perspective is so tricky for me too—look forward to seeing the range in your drawings as you push yourself out of your comfort zone!
So good to read about your experience and thoughts on sketchbooks and observational drawings Charlotte! I love sketchbooks since the beginning of my art journey but i used to only doodle or make small projects in it...only this year I felt that i need to gain confidence on my lines and to improve in drawing (exclusively for myself) so i start a new challenge and will draw each day anything from my daily life :) think will start with objects and evolve over the days. Have a nice weekend! P.s. thank you for the books recommendations.
Such a wonderful read! I love the quality of your black and white sketches with the pop of bold color, particularly in the swimming sketch and the bunkbed sketch and that delightful bubblegum surprise at the end. Thanks for sharing!
I enjoyed reading about your sketching practice. It’s something I’ve always wanted to try but I find the idea overwhelming. What materials do you like to use and how long does it take you?
Thanks so much Gina. It really varies. Sometimes just pencil or coloured pencil and others I plan a day out to sketch with specific materials. Anything from 2 mins to an hour but the main thing is that anything I do keeps up my practice so there’s no pressure on the outcome.
I really enjoyed this newsletter. Your sketches are so inspiring for me and since seeing your instagram account I now look at colour and marks in a different way.
Ooh what a lovely jam packed letter- I’m not surprised you have lots of insights- drawing from life is your metier- so great to see your MA stuff- love the motorway cars! Thanks Charlotte keep going!
The perfect read to have with my tea! Really enjoyed reading about what you're up to in your MA and your challenges / successes. The tonal drawing of the cars at night is beautiful - it's inspired me to do some tonal collage. Texture is something I'm trying to work in to my illustrations more but it always ends up looking far too digital. Can't wait to read more about your MA and see all the amazing things you've been up to on it x
Thanks so much Dani and thanks for reading! I can recommend working on photocopies of tone you’ve made if using black and white. It looks so granulated and lovely xx
So inspiring to read about how you feel about sketching and your sketchbooks. Thanks so much for sharing Charlotte :)
Thank you and thanks so much for reading Tessa! X

Thanks so much Carolyn! I definitely need to keep going with perspective!
