#011 Summer Reading
Here are some books I've enjoyed if you're looking for inspiration for the summer holidays.
Hello August
It’s finally summer in the UK and I’ve been thinking about what to read in the holidays. I love book recommendations so here’s a list of books I’ve enjoyed and what I’m reading now.
The Marriage Portrait, Maggie O’Farrell
I really enjoyed Hamnet and this was a present from a friend. It’s set in Florence in the 1550s and is so gripping. I read this in three days and couldn’t put it down. The characters really stayed with me afterwards.
Living Autobiography Trilogy, Deborah Levy
I’ve read a lot of Deborah Levy’s books but this trilogy is my favourite. Each book is structured with a series of vignettes that dip in and out of the past.
I really enjoyed listening to this podcast too.
Piranesi, Susanna Clarke
Reading this book is like entering into a dream like state. I loved the description and sense of place.
How Ideas are Born: Illustrators on creative processes, Miguel Angel P.Arteaga
It’s a really interesting look at illustrators from around the world, their work, sketchbooks and thoughts about creativity.
100 Great Children’s Picture Books, Martin Salisbury
There are so many books in the top 100 that I had not seen before and some beautiful mid-century illustrations.
What I’m reading now
I’m really enjoying this book. I love the descriptions of the grand Dutch House that the characters live in and the impact its design and presence has had on their lives.
Have you read any books that you would recommend?
What are you reading now? I’d love to know.
